La Liguria in Zwolle

I dined last night In La Liguria in Zwolle with a party of eight. We sat downstairs and there was plenty of room for us all. The restaurant has a very unusual layout; it is not a very wide inside but it is high and there are three separate floors of dining areas and a central staircase connecting them all. The bathroom is on the third floor... while walking up the stairs to use it (it was clean and roomy) I noticed how full the place was - lots of diners on all three levels were enjoying their meals.

Not long after being seated we were given a basket of delicious sliced bread with plenty of herbed butter to slather on it. That was a nice start. While enjoying some red wine we made our selections. Despite it being quite busy in the place our meals arrived in a timely manner.

Some folks in our group had pizzas, another had spaghetti with swordfish and I had a special salad ("Salate Mista" I believe it was called). It was perfect: beautifully presented top quality ingredients, several types of lettuce, beautifully ripe sliced tomatoes & cucumbers and fresh herbs on top, perhaps some olives and I think sun-dried tomatoes.... whatever was in it, I was impressed! I was given a piece of tuna pizza by one of our group and it too was delicious. Perfect crust - not too soft, not too hard but just right. I was also given a bite of the swordfish that was in my friend's spaghetti, I liked it and being from Florida I think I know what good seafood tastes like.

So I must say I that had read some of the recent negative comments here and was worried that we might be in for a dining disappointment. The truth was the other way around completely, we had a great time and a fantastic meal. We all enjoyed a couple of wines each and some ordered special coffees for dessert, which when all added up combined with the meals for eight adults came to 177,- euros. The waitresses were friendly and professional. I would not hesitate to go back to eat there again! I tried three very different dishes and they were all excellent - this really makes me wonder about the negative comments and what restaurant they were talking about!
