First time dining at the 'De Lachende Koe'.
The day we went, the restaurant was
quiet and not packed as we would have
expected.A friendly waitress led us to an empty
table. We ordered beverages and we got
ourself into the menu, while nibbing on
the amuse: filled olives (too salty),
baconchips (knappelspek) and baby onions.
I preferred breadsticks and butter as
amuse, but anyway.I've ordered the chickenpie with creme fraiche
(pastei met kipreepjes). The presentation
looks pretty neat. The taste was good, although
I would love to have more pie.
I would recommend this dish!My dad ordered the baked plaice with carrots
and potatoes. It was okay, the presentation
looks a bit poor. I was shocked about how
small the potatoes were. Overall dad liked it.My brother ordered the medium steak in
mushroom sauce. The presentation was good
enough to pass. The steak it self was too
chewy. Which is a bit ashamed, especially
when this restaurant is a so-called steakhouse.Another highlight: the fries. They came in a nice
standard in paperbag. They were thick and tasty.
Pre-ordering chips will charge you money. A con,
because most Dutch restaurants cope with the
refilling garniture with no charging.Last but not least: the dessert. We ordered the
4 dessert in small, so that we can all try them out
and judge them. I really love the creme brulee and
the spongy tiramisu. The cream puff was really
fresh and crunchy.- Essen & Trinken 7
